What's in our November Boxes

Hello Tea Runners,

You’re going to love the teas coming in November! We have an array of fresh pure teas and seasonal selections coming this month.

This month marks the return of the Classic Laoshan Black, one of Tea Runners’ most popular black teas from 2017.

While our Original and All-Black boxes contain the 2018 harvest of this lovely tea, our Pure Tea box recipients will receive the Imperial Grade Laoshan Black, a higher grade version of the Classic and one of the highest grade black teas normally available from the Laoshan region of China.

November’s Pure Tea box also includes the Orchid Aroma Black, one of my (Charlie’s) favorite black teas of the year.

Lately, Jewel has been loving the seasonal herbals and drinks them every night. We sampled 60+ seasonal teas back in September to make our selections for Oct/Nov/Dec, and this month we’re sharing two more of the best: the Nutcracker Black and the Carrot Cake Rooibos. If you were a fan of the Salty Caramel Pumpkin Black from October and the Winter Wonderland Rooibos from the past, you’re sure to love these two teas as well.

Enjoy!

- Charlie & Jewel

Classic Laoshan Black 2.jpg

Laoshan is a small village near the sea in northeast China known for producing wonderful black teas that are usually small and tippy, lacking the white pekoe-style hairs that give black teas their golden color.

Classic Laoshan Black is one of Tea Runners’ most popular black teas. It is naturally sweet and has a distinct flavor of dark chocolate. It tastes like this tea has had something added to it to make it sweeter, but this is a pure black tea with a flavor profile created by nothing but nature’s goodness.

May 2018 harvest.

Ingredients: Black tea.

Imperial Grade Laoshan Black

Imperial Grade Laoshan Black 3.jpg

Imperial Grade Laoshan Black tea is one of the highest grade Laoshan black teas normally available to the market.

It is similar to the Classic, the main difference being that this tea is comprised of the smallest, finest tippy material of the tea plants. Painstaking time and effort go into hand-picking the finest parts of the plant to create this tea, making it more than twice the price of the Classic.

By comparison, the Classic has a slightly stronger flavor profile than the Imperial. While the Classic has an unmistakable dark chocolate bite to it, the Imperial, although very similar, has a more complex and subtle flavor profile with sweet notes of cane sugar, chocolate and baked yams.

This is a lovely, fresh tea plucked in early May 2018.

Ingredients: Black tea.

Orchid Aroma Black

Orchid Aroma Black.jpg

This “Orchid Aroma” Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong Black Tea from the spring 2018 harvest is one of my (Charlie’s) favorite black teas of the year.

It comes from the Wu Yi Mountains, home of some of the world’s best oolongs, and has some of the characteristics of a Dan Cong. Orchid Aroma Black is sweet, spicy, and floral.

Picked during the first flush of spring, this heady and vibrant tea has been methodically roasted to bring out a thick, sweet mouthfeel and gorgeously lush floral aroma.

We love the way it’s surprisingly subtle sweetness enriches its robust strength with the spiciness of cinnamon rounding it all to a heavenly finish.

This month we’re happy to be sharing another great seasonal selection, perfect for the Thanksgiving season.

Carrot Cake Rooibos is one of our very favorite herbal teas this season and a great way to end a meal in a decadent way, without any need for dessert.

Rooibos’s natural digestive properties lend a helping hand at the end of the day while papaya pieces add tang and cinnamon chips bring some sweet heat.

Add some warm milk to this “carrot cake” to take its lusciousness to the next level.

Ingredients: Green rooibos, papaya pieces, sugar, cinnamon chips, flavoring and safflowers.

Maghreb Mint

Maghreb Mint 2.jpg

Morocco is known for it’s lovely mint teas and most tea companies out there have their own take on this well-renowned tea.

Maghreb Mint, an exotic and intoxicating blend of roasted green tea, peppermint, ginger, and cardamom, is one of our favorites. The warm nutty notes are pleasantly offset with aromatic clove and woody fennel, creating a unique and lively, unforgettable cup.

Ingredients: Green tea, ginger root, cardamom, peppermint, licorice root, fennel, cloves, black pepper.

White Monkey

Light and slightly sweet, this gorgeous and playful green tea has been handcrafted in the Fujian province of China, harvested in one of the first plucks of the season. Its leaves are thick and curled with the addition of lots of white buds, giving this tea nutty and vegetal notes to offset its sweetness.

Despite it’s name having “white” in it, this is classified as a green tea, not a white.

Try this one paired with light seafood, or sip it in the afternoon to brighten up the rest of your day.

April 2018 harvest.

The natural nuttiness of rooibos complements the spice blend beautifully, making this an exotic choice for any time of day.

Try it with some warm milk just like a traditional chai to further enhance its deliciousness.

Ingredients: Rooibos, cinnamon pieces, anise seeds, cloves, natural spice flavor and cardamom pods.

Chirrepeco

Most teas in the world come from southeast Asian (China, Japan, India, Nepal, etc), but here we have a great black tea from Guatemala.

This unique tasting black tea is an earthy beauty with a touch of natural sweetness. Grown near sacred caves still used in Mayan ritual today, this smooth strong tea has an enduring and pleasing aroma and a mysteriously enticing taste that will have you reaching for more.

Scarlet

Currants, cranberries, blueberries, and orange peel sing with festive sweetness while the nuttiness of rooibos rounds out the finish, creating balance. Mango and passion fruit further excite the palate, making this tea a juicy punch of flavour.

Ingredients: Currants, hibiscus flowers, rosehips, rooibos, blueberries, orange peel, cranberries, natural blueberry, passionfruit and mango flavors.

China Breakfast

China Breakfast is milder than a traditional English breakfast and has notes of raisin and caramel. It is a solid, reliable black tea perfect for any tea time.

This organic tea is grown high up in the forested Ecological Tea Garden in Yunnan, China, and makes a full-bodied cup that’s great on its own. Or if you’re feeling like a richer, more decadent cup, try boosting its natural sweetness with a dash of milk and honey.

Its mouthfeel is pleasingly round while its sweet taste lingers, making this a great tea to end a meal or send you off to a deep sleep.

Silver Strands is a very fragrant and pungent green tea of Simao that can produces a beautifully flavorful cup of green tea. It has the robust characteristics and a potent aftertaste that lingers in the back of the mouth.

The leaves have been dried into extremely thin strands that slowly unravel and expand as they are infused.
